Alejandro Szabo

I was born in Buenos Aires. I studied bandoneon since I was 10 years old.

My teachers were Arturo Penón, Daniel Binelli, Rodolfo Mederos, Alejandro Prevignano and Julio Pane. I studied at the "School of Popular Music of Avellaneda". I took the Harmony and Composition course dictated by Juan Carlos Cirigliano at the S.A.D.A.I.C. (Argentina). I ventured into classical and contemporary music with maestro Alejandro Barletta.

I have appeared on the Buenos Aires circuit and in the interior of Argentina, together with "Tracción Tanguera", "Raul Parentella Tango", "Los cosos de al lao", "Subte A", "Argentango" with the singer Ricardo "Chiqui " Pereyra and with "Hora Cero" with whom he recorded the album "Libertango".

Summoned by the saxophonist Jorge Retamoza, I joined his quintet "Tango XXX" since 1995 and recorded the CDs "Violentango" and "Policial Argentino", in addition to recording several for the television channel "Solo Tango" in Argentina.

In December 2001 I moved to Spain. In 2002 I participated in the tours of "Jorge Retamoza y Tango XXX".

In 2010 I formed the duo "DeContraBando" along with Diego Zecharies, (principal double bass player of the Galician Symphony Orchestra), presenting myself around Europe and recording the CD "Volume I".

I participated as bandoneon soloist with the "Banda Municipal de Santiago de Compostela" directed by Carlos Serans.

In 2012 I was summoned by the violinist Anahi Carfi (first solo violinist of the Alla Scala theater orchestra in Milan until 2003) to play at the "Festival de Música Clásica Villa de Llutxent" (Comunitat Valenciana), performing Piazzolla works.

In 2013 I formed the Typical Orchestra "La Ideal" in Porto (Portugal). With this group I continue today and I perform at festivals and events both in Portugal and in Europe.

Since 2015 I have been the first bandoneon of the “Tango Harmony” orchestra from Budapest, touring the milongas and festivals of different European countries such as Germany, Hungary, Austria, Holland and Italy.

With the pianist Alejandro Casquero I formed the duo "El Barullo" in 2019. We perform in various cities in Spain and Europe.
